pict0259-150x150Nellie Huang, the blogger behind Wild Junket, has been all over the world — and written about most of it. She was kind enough to answer a few questions for us about her work and her travels.

1. How do you finance your travels?

For the past 4 years, I’d been working on odd jobs to fund my travels while living abroad. From working as a Conference Coordinator in London, to teaching English in Madrid, these jobs have sustained my nomadic lifestyle and kept my life abroad exciting and refreshing. Working abroad has also allowed me to immerse in local lifestyle better and understand a country and its people.

2. Where is the strangest place you’ve ever worked?

I would say Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. I was volunteering as a social worker/teacher in a small village of Bomang’ombe. Everyday was filled with surprises, and interacting with the children was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had. Till this day, Africa still holds a special meaning to me. Other places I’ve worked like London, Madrid and Singapore all offer a different taste of life.

3. What tools have been indispensable to your ability to work on the road?

Having started my digital nomad lifestyle recently, I have come to realize that excellent organizational skills and attention to details are essential in this aspect. Having a backup battery charger, or prioritizing work in my travel schedule are important elements for working on the road.

4. What’s your favorite destination?

Wow, that’s a tough one, I honestly can’t choose one. Perhaps Santorini, Greece, or Zanzibar in Tanzania, oh maybe Istanbul, Turkey! How could I forget White Desert in Egypt! I give up, there are just too many amazing destinations in the world.

5. What travels do you have planned in the coming year?

This is going to be an exciting year, it already is! I am setting off for South America this month, with trips to Iguazu Falls, Macchu Picchu and Galapagos Islands on the itinerary!

  • I don't know too many women who can afford to take a year off and travel. That's no reason to skip on long term travel, though. Between telecommuting, work visas and networking, it's perfectly possible to pick up and move to different parts of the world on a regular basis — and work along the way.

Most women have a passing familiarity with the au pair concept. We focus on jobs that you can be proud to put on your resume: from finding a job abroad to building a business of your own, we've got the resources you need.
