Working In Transit: Where did my routine go?

lasvegasOne of the things I like about picking up and moving to a new place for a long period of time is the fact that I can build new routines for work. Sure, those routines won’t be identicial from place to place but I still know exactly when all my work is going to get done. Right now, I’m in the middle of a four-day trip to Las Vegas. While I’m having fun, I’ve definitely noticed the lack of routine.

It’s a problem I’ve noticed whenever I take a short trip — maybe two weeks or less. I find that if I bring work done, I almost always have to stay up late to finish it. I have a really hard time planning my day when I don’t have my routines to fall back on.

Have you had this problem at all? How do you counteract it? So far, the only solution I’ve found is trying to get all of my work for a short trip done ahead of time.

  • I don't know too many women who can afford to take a year off and travel. That's no reason to skip on long term travel, though. Between telecommuting, work visas and networking, it's perfectly possible to pick up and move to different parts of the world on a regular basis — and work along the way.

Most women have a passing familiarity with the au pair concept. We focus on jobs that you can be proud to put on your resume: from finding a job abroad to building a business of your own, we've got the resources you need.
